Sikwate with Broas. A common afternoon merienda for the people of Baclayon

Spanish Sardines with Pesto Penne
This is officially one of my favorite pastas to make. It’s easy, healthy, and flavorful. I also like that it has a kick to it. I made this using olive oil, garlic, cheese, bottled spanish sardines, and my homemade basil pesto. To make it even healthier, I used wheat penne. Yum! ;)

This Moussaka was my first baked dish.
I could say it was a successful first attempt. I was satisfied with how it turned out and the family loved it. Just had problems with the temperature since my oven makes use of Celsius measurements, which meant I’d have to convert what’s specified in recipe books (most make use of Fahreinheit).
As to why I chose Moussaka, it’s really simple. I’ve been in love with this dish ever since I tried it out at the quaint little restaurant, Gayuma ni Maria. From then, I promised myself I’ll come up with my own version of it at home. It’s quite fun making this because it involved a lot of steps, from frying eggplants, cooking the ground beef in red wine, making the bechamel sauce with milk and cheese, and waiting for more than hour for it set in the oven. I’d have to say the wait was worth it.
And so a new gastronomic affair begins… ;) Will definitely turn to baking more often now.
